Sister Joan Katoski, former teacher in Asbury Park Catholic school, dies

Funeral services will be held Feb. 15 for Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Joan Katoski who died Feb. 5 in Our Lady of Peace Residence, Scranton, Pa.
Visitation will be in Our Lady of Peace Residence from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass following at 11. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, Pa.
Born in 1940 in Washington, D.C., Sister Joan, formerly Sister M. Brenda, entered the IHM congregation Sept. 8, 1958; made temporary profession oof vows March 11, 1961, and her final profession of vows March 11, 1966. She held a bachelor’s degree in music in piano/organ and master of science degree in theological studies, both from Marywood College, Scranton, Pa. She also held another master’s degree in music education from West Chester University, West Chester, Pa.
Sister Joan served as a teacher in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and New Jersey. In the Trenton Diocese she ministered in Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Asbury Park, from 1969 to 1971 and from 1988 to 1990. Other positions she held included as a Catholic school principal and in parishes as a music minister and coordinator of liturgical ministries.
She retired in 2011 when she went to Our Lady of Peace Residence.
Sister Joan is survived by a brother, two sisters, nieces and nephews and members of the IHM community.
